(As Super Lawyers notes in its usage guidance, the accurate way to describe the recognition is that an attorney has been “named to the 2026 Colorado Super Lawyers list,” rather than using the term as a job title.)
Super Lawyers describes its methodology as a patented, multi-phase selection process that combines peer input with independent evaluation.
In general, the process includes:
Peer nominations, where attorneys identify candidates they have observed in practice.
Independent research, in which candidates are evaluated across multiple indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement.
Peer evaluation by practice area (often called a “blue ribbon” review), adding additional professional feedback to the scoring process.
Final selection, which results in an annual list that represents the top 5% of attorneys in the state.
Super Lawyers “Top Lists” are an added layer of distinction. According to Super Lawyers, Top Lists feature attorneys who are already selected to Super Lawyers and who earned the highest point totals in the scoring process.
