The Colorado Trial Lawyers Association bimonthly publication, Trial Talk, this month features an article by Keating Wagner’s Zach Warzel, who offers a primer on the tax implications of a judgment or settlement under the new tax law. While Zach doesn’t claim to be a tax expert, or even to play one on TV, his recent experience includes hiring experienced tax counsel to consult on an insurance bad faith settlement that had serious tax implications for his client, and that case led him to offer up some nuggets of wisdom first hand. His number one takeaway: hire an expert, but check out his full article to learn more about why and what you can expect when facing these types of issues.
